Slums in the city of Tikrit and their environmental, economic, social and security effects

Abstract

The developing countries witnessed huge urban growth especially in the second half of the twentieth century, then increased in the fifties, and then again in the eighties exacerbated after the US occupation of Iraq in 2003, which in turn generated intense pressure on the housing side and the rise in rent allowances led to the resort of many families with The limited income to override the land belonging to the state because of weak municipal control and the absence of law. The purpose of this research is to shed light on the reality of the slums in the city of Tikrit, while determining the spatial distribution (numerical and qualitative), and their characteristics, Social and security issues in order to reach a future vision to address this dangerous phenomenon. Hence, this study was entitled (The informal settlements in the city of Tikrit and their environmental, economic, social and security effects). The study was studied within four fields. The first topic included the spatial distribution of random settlement in Tikrit , And the second topic is the characteristics of the random settlement in the city of Tikrit, including the socio-economic and urban characteristics, and the third topic was interested in presenting the environmental, economic, social and security effects of the informal settlements in the region The fourth topic reviewed the future vision of solutions and treatments, reaching conclusions and proposals to address this phenomenon, and to achieve the objectives of the study used the researcher to collect data and information method of field study. The questionnaire was distributed to a sample of the study population as a main tool for collecting and researching data in the field as well as for office resources. The study concluded that this phenomenon is a result of the conditions experienced by the Iraqi country as a result of the change that took place in 2003. The city is randomized and there are environmental, economic, social and security effects of the slums on the city.
