Abstract

Italy was not a united state; it was made up of a number of republics and emirates, leading to conflicts of interest, conflicts such as the conflict between the Papal States and Venice, between the Papal States and Florence, and conflicts in which Milan participated. These Italian cities were an army of their own and worked on their own. Thus, there was no uniform army of Italy, but armies opposite, and Italy was a theater and a target of the conflict on its territory more than it was a participant
