Reading motivation of intermediate students

Abstract

Reading is one of the most important skills acquired in the life of the individual. It is the key to acquiring a variety of sciences and knowledge, as a means of communication for learning and a source of linguistic development for the individual and an important factor in shaping his mind, refining his personality, strengthening his abilities, expanding his abilities, satisfying his needs and creating opportunities for him to acquire multiple experiences. And fruitful, so reading is one of the most important criteria that measure the progress of societies or backwardness, the reader community is the one who invests the book in a positive reading, analysis, scrutiny and criticism, reading is a process of emotional driving motivation compoundThese include the mechanical side of the physiological responses to the written symbols and the second is a mental process through which the meaning is constructed, including thinking, analysis, linkage, reasoning, interaction, criticism, taste, and problem solving. Before that, it involves the recognition of the written symbols, their understanding, interpretation and analysis. Is a psychological process in the first place since it is related to the general ability of the reader and his willingness to read and his motivation towards the reading material.To confirm this, the current study aimed to identify the following: 1 - the level of motivation for reading among middle school students. 2 - the level of motivation for reading among middle school students according to the gender variable (male - female).In order to achieve the objectives of the research, the researcher prepared a measure on a random sample of students of the second intermediate (300) students, by (150) (150 students) were selected randomly and equally from ten schools in the Tikrit district, the center and the parties. The data were collected and processed using the statistical bag (SPSS). The study reached the following results:1 - The study sample characterized by high level of motivation for reading in general.2 - There are differences in motivation for reading by students and for females in the research sample by sex variable at the level of statistical significance (0,05
