Abstract

Earthquakes and tremors have increased in recent years in many Turkish cities. Experts suggested that the reasons for that are related to a direct or indirect relationship with water projects in the southeastern Anatolia region, which is known for its complex terrain. This has prompted the Turkish government to develop technical designs for some of the facilities of the mentioned project to resist the intensity of these natural phenomena and be able to absorb the strength of the earthquake if it occurred. The degree of earthquake strength ranged between (6-8) on the Richter scale. This is a clear indication of the Turkish authorities' knowledge that this region is active in these natural phenomena, which occur frequently from time to time, despite its insistence to do so for political and economic goals it seeks.
