The Design of the Symbol and Its Aesthetic Value in the Fabrics of the Babylonian Fashion

Abstract

The design can be considered as a non-linguistic communication which can affect the recipient, so it is necessary for those who design the fabrics aesthetically to have the experience, proficiency and sufficient knowledge of this process. Therefore, the researcher has found that the problem of the research consists in the lack of the use of symbols in the Babylonian fashion and limited it to the shrubs and vertical and horizontal lines, and some simple forms such as circles and others. In light of our pride in the cultural heritage in the designs of Iraqi fabrics and in view of the cultural invasion to our society, on one hand, and a flood of foreign goods  bearing western concepts in our market, on the other hand. This research came as a contribution to the study of the aesthetic values of the design of symbols on the Babylonian fashion. The designer of fabrics, who must possess the aesthetic taste, can employ the designs to make them attractive, and contribute to the development of national industry and raise the level of quality and quantitative production by the benefit of the results. The objective of the research is to identify the aesthetic values of the design of the symbol in the Babylonian fashion. The study is based on the study of symbols used in the Babylonian fashion in old Babylonian era, which is the period between 1728-1600 BC. This is what is stated in the first section. The second section includes two sub-sections (aesthetic and design of the Babylonian fashion)  and (Symbols of Babylonian fashion). In the third section, the researcher depends on the experts and specialists in the field of art and research methods taking a descriptive / analytical approach to develop the items of the technical sides form according to their opinions as they agree on the items of the questionnaire and analyze the selected samples from the culture of our ancient Iraqi civilization.
