Abstract

In order to illustrate the Arab identity in the ancient Arabic grammar lesson, we took a topic in Sebawei's book, the oldest book in grammar that appeared in the Arabic lesson. It is to show the effect of the Arabic language on a non-native Arabic person like him.

Assimilation is a purely Arabic phenomenon, which is known only by native Arabic speakers, and has a variety of types. The great assimilation happens between two moving sounds in one word or two neighbouring words restored by changing the movement of the first into the next one. This phonological phenomenon shows the Arab identity whose effect on Sebawei is apparent as he tried his best to define and give more details about this phenomenon. The literature he left behind is highly acknowledged by modern scholars
