Abstract

During the period 1969-1977 , Libya witnessed political, economic and social changes specially after the discovery and exporting of oil since 1958. Libya witnessed noticeable social and political changes, a quality shift in Libyan society occurred, and Libyan economy changed from agricultural into oil dependent economy. About 99% of Libyan exports were oil which led to great growth in Libyan national income, whereas few changes occurred in social frames, poor growth in education and health levels in the 1960s of the twentieth century which Led to emergence of new social classes such as labors, middle class ( technicians, intellectuals and university graduates). These sectors demanded part of the economical profits and political participation until the coup of army officers on the 1st of September 1969 against monarchy and declaring the republic. Thus, Libyan economy during 1970s witnessed rapid growth. Libya became one of the richest countries in the world. This was reflected on the social side specially education and health .

This study handles the changes in this period.
